GHOST PEPPER / BHUT JOLOKIA
Bhut jolokia, with its many wrinkles and spicy appearance, was recorded by Guinness World Records as the world's hottest pepper until 2011. (It is two to three times hotter than habanero. ⁉︎) In the Assamese language of Bhut Jolokia's homeland, Bhut means “Bhutanese/Tibetan people” and Jolokia means “pepper”. In Western countries, it is popularly known as ghost pepper, which is recognized by the name ghost pepper because when Bhut is alphabetized, it means “ghost. Bhut jolokia's painfully intense spiciness has captivated many people who love hot peppers.
